OUR VISION

The LA Law Library is the leader in providing public access to legal information

OUR MISSION

The LA Law Library provides access to legal information through effective, efficient and collaborative services in order to support current and emerging user needs in a dynamic legal environment.

Established in 1891, the LA LAW LIBRARY is a vital civic institution that serves both the legal community and the public, including self-represented litigants. With nearly one million equivalent volumes, the library includes comprehensive Federal and State primary and practice materials; complete California practice materials including the most extensive collection of California appellate briefs; and one of the most significant foreign and international law collections in the country. The collection is provided in print, media and through online resources. LA Law Library services and resources are available at the Mildred L. Lillie Building, its downtown flagship location that includes a wireless reading room, a training center and conference rooms; in five courthouse locations, including collaborative space with the Superior Courts in Long Beach, Norwalk, Pomona, Santa Monica and Torrance and in public libraries in Pasadena, Lancaster, Compton and Van Nuys. Evening and weekend access provided through the Library’s website www.lalawlibrary.org.

The Law Library is not tax supported;  85% of its income is from Los Angeles Superior Court filing fees.   Friends’ activities raise the visibility of the Law Library and provide a needed, additional base of financial support.
